My name is Mattias Hjelseth and this is my blog on the geography of Hip Hop The definition of hip hop according to the dictionary is 'a style of popular music of US black and Hispanic origin, featuring rap with an electronic backing' There are two main areas of hip hop. There East coast and West Coast. Hip hop first started in the Bronx in New York in the late 1970s. There are often disputes whether hip hop started in the South Bronx or the West Bronx. Hip hop was started in block parties that were organised by the Black spades. The Hip Hop culture was spread to both urban and suburban communities.
